Changes

Posted by Alex
Hello again.

I been thinking several times again to write some posts. But I kept not getting around to it. I either didn't had the time or when I had the time I went to do other things and before I knew it my free time was gone.

Also I realized I write the best posts most of the times under the shower, in thought only of course as it's kinda impractical to take a computer or even a piece of paper with you to the shower...

But when I come out of the shower I kinda can't find the energy, motivation etc to actually write them and then moment passes away.

But anyway enough rambling I am actually sitting here now writing a post.

Things actually been quite busy for me the last few weeks. It started around five weeks ago when my collegue went on holiday. He was supposed to stay away just four week...well just...four weeks was long enough. But anyway it became five weeks. Which resulted in the fact I had to run a account normally ran by two persons practicly alone. It was hellish and I am glad it's over. I made some errors and feel I didn't do well enough but well I got through.

But new changes already looking around the corner as the holiday collegue is gonna leave soon resulted mostly likely in me making a small promotion and getting someone to assist me. I am kinda nervous about and am not sure I am ready for it but we will see. Also I am not so sure I wanna proceed a carreer in this line of work anyway. To clearify my work is to arrange custom documents and transport of sea containers. So basicly I am part of the chain that makes sure to goods we buy in the shops get actually into the shops.

It's kinda amazing to see what we people drag around the world. At the moment I am on a account that imports parts of network units. You know those closset things with all the computer stuff in it that makes the phone's and computers work.

But I also saw containers come by with...bat poop. Yes bat poop, shit, dropping. I think it came from south america aparantly they use it futrilize the ground, odd. Other stuff I saw come by were: Medical supplies, computer parts like fans and cooler systems, parts for security systems, a race car, computer screens, refridgerators, X-boxes, a luxery speedboat and more of that stuff.

Some of the suff I saw but most of the time I don't of course. Although I did saw the car and speedboat. Luckily for me I didn't saw or smelled the bat poop.

Anyway enough changes at work. But also other things are changing. When I was little and returned from a two week holiday with my parents and younger brother something always seemed to have changed in our absance. Like the neighboors painted their house a different colour, our garden being taken over by weeds, the tv station who changed their logo silly things like that. This summer I didn't went on holiday but my parents did to greece. They will be surprised I figure when they notice this year change. Most public tree's in our neighberhood have been cut down. I personally i have mixed feelings about them gone. I always found it annoying the trees were placed on the parking lots where there roots messed up the pavements and the fact you had to be carefull not damaging your car by hitting the tree or the birds inside the trees using your car as a public toilet. But still it is so barren now without them. There are a few left but all the trees in my street seem cut down. It's a sad sight.

A much bigger change is the move of my grandfather from my mothers side. My last living grandparent. It was obvious he had to move to a retirement home quite a while but still it went all so fast all of a sudden. He had fallen several times and it was obvious he was going to need more daily care. Mentally he is still quite ok which I am quite happy about. But physically his body is goving out. He has trouble keeping his balance especially when he is tired or nervous. So my parents and my aunt and uncle had been looking for a new place for him as he was still living by himself in a rented house. His old house is quite nice small house without stairs and is on the edge of the city I am living in with a vieuw over the dutch countryside. Which means fields with cows and a little white church in the distance. As long as I can remember my grandparents have lived there. My grandmother passed away a few years ago. It's a odd feeling for methat soon that house no longer will be occupied by my grandparents. But well my granfather switched the countryside scenery for some nice vieuws of a river. He actually moved back closer to his roots back into the big city in his old neighberhood.

Me and my brother helped my aunt and uncle moving him as our parents are away on holiday. They planned that before we knew we would move him. All bad timing I guess. I am glad I was able to help. I helped driving over some of my grandfathers belongings and other stuff. Made me feel a bit usefull.

He is over mostly now and slowly settling in. Now just comes the hard job of emptying his old house. But that's something i think my parents will do with my aunt and uncle.

An other thing that has happend is my cousin moving out on his own with his girlfriend. Funny thing is he bought a house right between his parents house (the aunt and uncle I talked about above) and his girlfriend parents house. Anyway this weekend he had his house warming and girlfriends birthday. And as only member of the family available as my parents are on holiday and my brother had to work I went alone. It was kinda fun. My cousin showed me his house i already saw it once but then it was all barren it still needed work and furniture. It looked good stylish and smood. There was this one horrible colourfull girly girl lamp tho. According to my cousin all women who saw it loved it while all the men including me hate it. Its really bright with colour plastic looking gem things it's like a chandeleer. Obviouslly it was the input of my cousins girlfriend. Lucky for my cousin the lamp is hidden away in a small room people where people hardly come.

Also I met some new people. People from the girlfriends side of the family and friends, i kinda had to leave earlier then I would have wanted as I had to drive my grandfather and another aunt home. I dropped my grandfather off first. I regret i didn't let the aunt take the bus from there as she suggested then I would have been able to stay with my grandpa longer. I never was close with this aunt and I kinda got nervous when she invited me over for tea. Anyway I brushed her off and just dropped her off at her house and went home. Maybe a little rude but meh, I had my reasons. Perhaps i should have gone back to my grabdpa from there but ah well. perhaps i will try and drop by his place this week.

Anyway I am gonna wrap this way to long badly written post up soon. Just one last thing with our parents away my brother and I had to cook, wash, do grossery shopping and cleaning ourselves. And that was kinda a educational thing. Which I liked btw. I kinda enjoy cooking my own food. Although I have much to learn. All i cooked uptill now was Spagetthi, baked patotoes with vegetables out of a jar and meat, pancakes and err I fried some fries and stuff. Like i said I have much to learn. But at least it was all eatable.

Ok now it's time for me to sleep. I wonder if anyway will bother to read this post of mine XD. Anyway much greets to all and thanks for reading.

Lex

Jealousy, I Name Thee... Me?

Ever get a bonus from work? Not money, but something else? Like a DVD player? I got a pat on the back and a muffin when my first article was published years ago. My brother, he got a €70,000 custom built Audi A4, every detail and specification made per his wishes.

He works for Audi, and at some point he was asked what would be the perfect A4, the kind he would like to put on display at one of the dealerships in Finland. And he just gives out a list of details. Three months later, the car is sitting on his parking lot and a courier hands him a note, basically saying, "keep up the good work". Pearly white, creamy white leather seats, a bi-turbo V8, and pretty much every gadget Audi has in their catalogue. I rarely look at a car and go "That is a work of art".

I don't ask that much from life, I just basically want to be comfortable and left alone. So I don't normally crave for what other people have. I just think it's not fair I got a muffin and he gets a sports sedan that was purpose built for him.

Here's What's Keeping Me Busy

Posted by Kristian
About two weeks ago I noticed a lump on my dog's left hindleg. Because he has had a benign skin tumor before, I decided to keep an eye on it to make sure if it was a tumor or an insect bite of some sort. A few days later the lump appeared to have been punctured and was... oozing, so I called the vet.

The vet seemed to think that it was infact another benign tumor, but Dante had managed to rupture it and it was now badly infected. He prescribed a week's worth of antibiotics and a check up appointment.

Yesterday the dog went back to the vet and because the antibiotics had not worked, they had to operate on his leg, removing infected tissue as much as possible without jeopardising the leg's mobility. Oh, and they cut his nuts off while he was in the OR.

Dante is now on strong painkillers (beef flavored) for a week, and even stronger antibiotics (strawberry flavored... I kid you not) to remove all remaining bacteria and keep the leg from becoming infected again.

We're going in for another check up in two weeks, but the doctor said that with the infected tissue they removed and these now meds, he should be fine by then.

Gotta mention how insanely powerful the painkillers are that Dante is taking. He's a big dog so usually even strong antibiotics only make him a bit drowsy, but when I give him one of the painpills, ten minutes later he's out cold. Like a cricket bat to the neck.

Also, I bought an Xbox 360 and GTA4.

We've Lost Another One

Posted by Kristian
Just the other day I was talking with Bebbet about great artists who have died far too soon, and wouldn't you know it, it happens again.

Actor and comedian Bernie Mac died today from complications due to penumonia. Mac had been hospitalised a week earlier, but was said to be responding to treatment and was expected to make a full recovery.

Mac was one of The Original Kings Of Comedy, a comedy group which toured the US in the 90's and all of whom later gained great fame. Other members of the Kings were Cedric The Entertainer, D.L. Hughley and Steve Harvey.

Though maintaining a steady acting career throughout his stand up career, Mac later gained greater fame in as the star of his own sitcom The Bernie Mac Show, which lasted for five seasons, and a host of blockbuster movies, including the Ocean's Eleven franchise.

Here's a clip from The Original Kings Of Comedy show, to take away the pain.

Note to cats

I know you're all disappointed, but I'm not going to say I'm sorry, because I'm not.

I loved the looks of pride and accomplishment on your faces when I caught the moth you all had been trying to catch for the last several hours. I know you each were happy to see the results of your long and laborious efforts to teach me to hunt properly. Heck, I was a bit astonished that none of the furniture got disturbed in any way from my efforts.

But, YOU did not catch the moth, I did, and since I was the one who was finally successful, I'm the one who got to decide what happened to it. I know you were all looking forward to hearing that satisfying crunch that comes with the kill, but yes, I'm afraid I do have to admit, I threw it outside.

In the long run, we'll all be much happier with this decision. That one moth will make more and some of those will try to enter our domain. Plus, I don't have to pick legs and wing bits from my teeth.

I hope you all will learn to accept my decision, eventually. There will be other hunts and I will join in again with equal fervor, but there are just some things I will not do and eating the remains, living or dead, of almost any accidental wildlife intruder is one of them.

Bones

Posted by Kristian
Four weeks ago I took a nasty little tumble. But while I was going down, my left foot, stuck under a decorative bannister, was not. My ankle was swollen so bad it was like a cast, the swelling kept the foot immobile for several days.

As the swelling began to subside and the pains started to become manageable, I decided have it looked at. At first it was suspected to be just a severely twisted ankle, and that the tendons and ligaments around it would need a lot of time to heal. Then, as time progressed, it was suspected there may be a tear in the achilles tendon. And when I met my doctor last Friday, he said that it probably isn't a tear, but that there may have been a slight fracture in the bone, and a micro fragment of the bone has now lodged itself in the tendon.

So yesterday I went for an X-ray and an ultrasound. And my doctor was suppose to call me the results Thursday morning. But instead he called today. Apparently he felt that the double fracture I have in my ankle requires immediate surgical consultation.

Fortunately the surgeon said that the breaks are clean and surgery is probably not required. Probably not because normally it would heal easy, but because some stupid people they are Superman and walk around for four weeks with a double fracture, and now the bone may not heal itself as it normally would.

So I have a cast. For six weeks. And every two weeks, all the way up to eight weeks from now, they are going to take more pictures of the bone and hope it starts to heal. If not, then at some point it will require surgery.

At least I got my copy of the Watchmen today, so I'll have something to do while I with my leg up.

Theodore

Posted by Kristian
I was at the grocery store today, and I bought something special.

A chicken.

A whole chicken.

Frozen, not alive.

I call him Theodore.

And I'm gonna stuff him with garlic and onions.

Then cook him in a stock made with Newcastle Brown Ale.

Theodore shall be the star guest of my weekend supper.

Beautiful World - Is This As Good As It Gets?

Posted by Kristian
This is a continuation of the last post

One of my favorite forms of music is acoustic. It's pure. It's simple. It doesn't lie.

And for the past several years, my favorite acoustic musicians has been Colin Hay, who was the frontman of, believe it or not, Men At Work.

This is Beautiful World, probably the best song Hay has ever written. And I love it.
