I've gone fishing! Well, not really. Just gone on vacation. I shall return on Saturday. Wheeeee!

To honor the Netherlands, I looked up some quick facts.

The country is named 'Nederland', translated in English as "The Netherlands". Holland is comprised of two regions, North Holland and South Holland. So referring to The Netherlands as "Holland" is like referring to Britain as England or Belgium as Flanders. Except the Dutch are likely to forgive you the error.

Very, very flat. Much of the Netherlands is reclaimed land and is below sea level. The Dutch are inordinately proud about this. They have a saying: "God created the world in seven days, and the Dutch created the Netherlands.". This gives the Belgians an easy opportunity for some wit about God not bothering etc.

At least they have the Belgians to worry about. I seem to recall in Luxembourg that it was "common knowledge" that Belgians don't know how to drive. I guess having Belgium as their neighbour instead of the Netherlands allowed them to ally with the Dutch instead. Plus, the Luxembourgish language is as adorably ugly as Dutch is,.. so.

SO TRUE! I don't understand how they do it.. Such a cute language though. Makes me giggle. And their accents when they speak English.. *squeals with delight*
